Ancestor

All domestic cats, descended from a Middle Eastern wildcat, Felis sylvestris, which literally means "cat of the woods."

For how long

Cats were first domesticated in the Near East, and some of the study speculate that the process began up to 12,000 years ago.

Domestication

There are six criteria for successful domestication: Easy to feed; Grow and mature at a rate that makes economic sense; Breed well in captivity to keep the population; Be generally nice animals; Can’t be prone to freak outs; The social structure of the species has to be strong.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO HAVE A CAT.
